Lanark Show Report - 2019

British Pigeon Fanciers-GILD study update from Lanark

The BPF GILD study team would like to thank everyone who took valuable time out of their day at Lanark to join the study by contributing valuable data and samples, and by sharing their experiences of pigeon lung. Sixty-two new participants were enrolled in the study and 5 individuals who had previously enrolled at Blackpool last January also returned for a repeat assessment. This was a fantastic response which far exceeded our expectations. A new appointment system, kindly set up by SHU secretary Linda Brookes, made for a comfortable and manageable process on the day.

We were also delighted by the attendance of around 25 fanciers at the short talk and Q&A session chaired by Phil and Louise where they described the purpose of the study, applauded the incredible engagement and motivation of the pigeon fancy community in the research, and re-emphasised the importance of enrolling fanciers both with or without pigeon lung symptoms.

The team are now looking forward to the next event at Blackpool in January 2020 where they will be welcoming back existing participants for repeat assessments as well as inviting new-joiners to take part.
